The Forrest Caves is an awesome visit I always go past when traveling to Philip Island. Depending on where the tide is you can get a completely different experience to. Sometimes the whole cave is filled with water and you can walk ontop of it watching water splash up, other times it is dry and you can walk through it. Very interesting to check out.
The sand on the beach there is also pretty squeaky so try that out for some extra fun!
Very beautiful. A beach walk to get to it. Heard someone say "is that it?" I guess having something created from a volcano that was then eroded and left behind as a natural curiosity; something only accessible at low tide could be something ... or not.
Be careful to select the Forrest Caves Parking for directions when driving (not this location). A terrific walk on the beach with the kids. We had to come at high tide as low tide was when we were going to the penguin parade. Still worth the stop, but know there are lots of stairs. Totally worth your time to visit and soak in some nature.
Nice beach with strong waves 🌊
⚠️ Google maps’s direction is incorrect! Check street signs for correct directions, the beach’s entrance is basically a bit further than what Google maps indicates if you go there from San Remo/ Melbourne.
🏖️ The beach is big and has enough space for everyone so it doesn’t feel overcrowded. There’s a cave 300m to the entrance stairs which is interesting to see (only in low tide).
🌊 The waves were strong so it might be more suitable for surfing than swimming.
🚿 There is 1 shower and two relatively clean toilets.
Forrest caves Philip Island is my special place to go to when I want nice wide open space.. pounding waves and nice soft sand.. it's stunning on a beautiful day.. and best to visit at low tide to get inside the cave.
Have to come at low tide to enjoy wandering through the caves and exploring the rock pools nearby, but def worth it!
A fair few stairs from the carpark to the beach, but easy wandering after that.
Very interesting caves and the views were lovely! Just to confirm though there are approx 145 actual steps to get up and over the sand dunes to the beach!
This is a must-visit location on Philip Island, just a short 300-meter walk from the beach. You can easily spend 30 to 60 minutes here, making it well worth the visit.
